The key essence of any organisation is its human resource. The basic functioning of a human is directed by its mental abilities and good state of mind. A person is said to be more efficient only when he or she is in the right state of mind and physically fit. The cutthroat competition in the corporate world, can cause serious mental health issues for an individual / employee. It can be tiring and exhaustive. 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘺 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘭𝘰𝘢𝘥, 𝘯𝘰𝘯-𝘧𝘭𝘦𝘹𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴, 𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘰𝘧 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘱𝘦𝘦𝘳 𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦—these are all the causes of mental health issues such as 𝘣𝘪𝘱𝘰𝘭𝘢𝘳 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘳, 𝘢𝘯𝘹𝘪𝘦𝘵𝘺, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘻𝘰𝘱𝘩𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘢. Hence, looking at the need of the hour, HR managers have started putting into practice 𝒇𝒆𝒘 𝒎𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒎𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒈𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒂𝒎𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒔 happening to the mental well-being of their employees.
1) 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐞 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐬 (𝐄𝐀𝐏𝐬) introduced by various MNCs, HR departments can provide their employees with therapy sessions, counselling, and meditation practices, dedicating a day to guide them.
2) 𝐀𝐝𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐇𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐬 to keep their minds calm and relaxed even during the most stressful times at work and there are no signs of anxiety, depression, or, in some cases, schizophrenia.
3) 𝐀 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐫 is hired to conduct the sessions and suggest appropriate measures to balance them.
4) 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐞𝐬 so they can identify the early signs of mental illness among their fellow colleagues and help them with the required treatment or suggest them to the counsellor hired by the company.
5) 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 is something an HR manager should try to imbibe in the organisation where people can openly communicate; a homely and stress-free environment where every employee of the organisation feels included and appreciated; relaxation in timings; flexible workplace policy; and many more things can create a supportive workplace.
As mental health issues are rapidly increasing in this era, every HR manager should make sure that their employees are mentally healthy. Therefore, every employer should follow the quote:
“𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒂𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒎𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒔𝒆𝒍𝒇-𝒅𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒖𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒕𝒐𝒈𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒗𝒊𝒄𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒚 𝒐𝒇 𝒂𝒍𝒍.”
